Hey guys, i wanna swap out my optical drive for a small SSD that would be used for the OS and apps only. I watched this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvdAN_caP9E where they accomplished this using something called an OWN data doubler.

What are your thoughts on this? Is it the best way to do it?

Also, whats the smallest SSD i should use if its just for apps and the OS?

thanks, nick

Search for "optibay" - you'll find all you need. Also, it's OWC Data Doubler, but it's not the best way and is expensive. Get a Nimitz HDD caddy from eBay for $23 and the SSD (I'd try to get a 120GB+ model, but you COULD make it work on even 60GBs)

When you say "not the best way," what do you mean? Take price out of the equation.

It's heavier, (I won't mention it costs more), and there is zero benefit over the eBay one. And that's not just my opinion - there really is zero benefit.

I know very little about SSD specs. Can you make any recommendations on low capacity SSD's (60-120 GB) that are relatively inexpensive?
