I would go with it I mean the stuff you listed out sounds like a normal everyday mac. trust me I am one that went Mac and then was forced back because I had school work and such that I needed windows for go with Mac it really is the best OS and systems money can buy.

Go wth the Mac, a good refurb MB would be a good option in your situation. I'm a switcher - I switched from Windows to Mac earlier this year - and really like the Apple world. At present - not by my own wish - I am back in a Windows (and virus laden) environment, so I understand very well where bengal85 is coming from.

To the OP, what you describe as the specs would more than easily be met by a refurb MB, and at present, they come at a very competitive price. Moreover, I would also advise that you consider getting Office for Mac if you need Word and other Office applications, as they are used by the vast majority of computer users in the wider world.

Cheers and good luck

If you had a Mac, but needed Windows, why didn't you just use Boot Camp to install Windows and made it a dual boot system?
