After sniffing around, I've found a site that appears to have been in business since 2001 unlocking other models of phones.

I'm not linking to it, and won't PM you it, find it on your own. I don't want to be seen as having an agenda here.

Anyway, my advice is to go with places that look legitimate, not these little rinky-dink blogs that all of the hammerheads here are pumping up.

Wish me luck ladies.

Well Kyle (the owner of modmyi.com) just posted his results purchasing an unlock through negri electronics and he is now unlocked.

I've also taken the plunge to document it.

Keep in mind the price could fall dramatically at some point.
:p

I was all set to go with the service I found, now I'm having second-thoughts. I usually always go with my gut instinct. As I said, the site I found has been in business since 2001 apparently unlocking every phone except the iPhone obviously. Its whole niche is for overseas travelers.

Until this method's price drops down closer to $100 and it's obvious that Apple isn't going to re-lock these phones, I'm not going near it.

If the service is still around by then (and AT&T doesn't miraculously start offering official unlocks), I'll probably do this for iPhone 5... It's not worth paying $175 on an unlock for a phone that I intend to sell in a couple months, especially since I've still got the original baseband.
