Is anybody else on the same boat?
I've upgraded from the 13 Pro Max, one of the reasons (apart from camera, display and a fresh new battery) was the Dynamic Island

I got so hyped when they presented it, and I thought it was a clever UI/UX design.

But now that it's almost 2 weeks that I've had the 14 PM I'm using it less than what I expected. I don't listen to music that much on the phone, mostly through carplay. People that use public transportation will use it more I believe.

Also there were already two other places where you could control music.

Honestly I would prefer to have the notch back as it doesn't interfere with wide YouTube videos

Also, I believe this pill is more noticeable than the notch for two reasons:
The notch merged with the rest of the phone. The pill having that useless space above makes it more noticeable

The pill sits lower than the notch

I’m sure there will be many more ways in coming OS updates and in third party app support.

I’m just enjoying it from the nice Face ID prompts and music/video controls alone at the moment!

Thank you for this honest review I will be canceling my 14promax order . Also I’m not a fan of the sim tray being replace by a plastic piece.

I’ve had the 14 Pro for about 24 hours and haven’t really used it. It doesn’t distract me as much as I thought it would either. At least it will be there when and if I do need it.

Dynamic Island still needs the apps to adopt it. Live Activities API will be out soon, and then more apps will use the island.

Right now only Apple’s first party apps are using it.

The SIM tray will eventually be replaced with periscope lens for an even better camera system, but we’ll see how Apple navigates the international versions.

As for the space above the notch, I find it makes the whole screen feel bigger. This is preferable to the notch for me.

It's gimmick and it will be killed in the same way as the touchbar. So don't get too used to it.

I’m not sure it will. Apple’s put a lot of effort into this.

Touch Bar failed because it replaced a much more useful function row of keys. So it was bound to get a lot of hate. The Island doesn’t have this issue. It has the potential to be truly useful, and doesn’t take anything away.

For some reason the pill design on top looks more natural to me than the notch did. I only watch YouTube videos on my phone when I’m on the go so it’s not a detriment for me since it’s not my dedicated media engine. That’s what My iPad is for. As for whether it’s a gimmick or not I’m not going to pass judgment until a few months go by to see how everything integrates after iOS 16.1 and third-party developers jump on board.

I use it with maps and music and looking forward to live activities and sports scores and see what other developers come up with and what other Apple apps may utilize it.

It’s only been 2 weeks. It’s like folks are expecting it to enrich their lives. It’s just a cool little feature on a device. I enjoy it for what it does now.

Come in spinners lol, knew it soon and I saw it was a gimmick, and the pill looks worse imo.
Glad I kept my 13 max and put my money into a Ultra Watch, now there's a upgrade.
First year since 4S I havn't got a new iPhone.

The SDK isn't even out yet for developers.
I mean, it's out but the compiler is beta, so nobody can publish an app that officially supports the Dynamic Island. It will come.

The only thing that bothers me about it is how it makes it a bit harder to swipe down to see notifications. If I don't get the finger placement right, I end up hitting the dynamic island and can't pull down to see notifications. It can be somewhat frustrating but i'm trying to get used to swiping down from the left corner instead of swiping down the center.. 🤷‍♂️

I started using the left side, now that the center is used for the Island. We’re running out of sides/corners for all these gestures.

But I’d trade that for functionality any day.

It's been an adjustment for me as well, I have to swipe from right for control center, and left for notifications. I liked center for notifications it was easier, lol.
