Hey folks.
So the other day my ODD decided it liked the disc i was burning so much that it doesn't want to give it back to me. I was burning a batch of band promos and had gone through about 18 when i got to this one disc. It took a while for the drive to recognise it but did eventually so i thought nothing of it. It burnt without any problems and works while its in the drive. But no matter what i do it will not eject it.
Ive tried all the typical/emergency/force options (hold down mouse button on startup, use Disk Utility, iTunes, command lines in Terminal) and nothing will work, it'll spin down, but then spin back up again and remount it. As such in starting to wonder if the drive is broken mechanically, i dont know the anatomy of a ODD but im guessing there is a belt of drive circuit used to push any discs out of it, and as such im looking into a replacement. After viewing some YT vids and reading things like iFixit's directions, im fairly confident i can do the job myself, but im curious as to whether i can replace the drive with one from ANY intel mac? Ive seen a drive on fleabay from a 17" 2008 C2D iMac, and am hoping this will fit in its place...
Any directions/suggestions/recommendations/black magic rituals?
