I have a 2007 20" iMac AL with 2TB drive and 4GB RAM running 2.4 GHz. I need to go to a laptop (my office is turning into a bedroom/playroom and I hate being sequestered from my family at night anyway).

My plan is to sell it and then buy a used Macbook Pro 15" (not 17" and certainly not a 13" -- I use the screen). Most of my work is web development including Photoshop work, a few games, web/email/etc.

1. What is my iMac worth? Based on Everymac, I'm guessing in the neighborhood of $900, but that may be optimistic.

2. What's the latest MBP you suppose I could find? Ideally it too would have 4GB RAM and at least 500MB hard drive.

Feedback appreciated.

Thanks!

I don't know about the US but in Vancouver Canada, a used 2009 15" goes for anywhere from $900 - 1100. Be patient with your mac sale. Post it on craigslist or what have you on thursday to get the "just got payed" buyers who'll offer more. Put it up for $1000 and I bet you'll get it just because it's a Mac.

I've sold everyone of my used mac's this way. I get top dollar and cover the majority of my new machine costs. For what you're doing, a 2009 C2D would do the job. If you can spring it, go for a 2010 though. Much better value in the CPU and GPU.
