iMac (2007) crashes unpredictably

Hello people,
I have an iMac from 2007 with Mac OS 10.8.2. I can boot the computer, but after a while the OS suddenly crashes for whatever reason. The disk program didn't find any error. Other times the computer doesn't boot and stops with a grey screen. How could I find out what is wrong with my old Mac?
