I have a 24" 3.06 iMac with a 500gb hard drive. I am pretty intimidate with trying to do the hard drive swap on my own. I have swapped thousands of normal hard drives, but removing the glass and the entire mess seems to be to big of a risk. Does Apple stores replace them for a fee? If they do, can you bring your own drive to them or do you have to buy the drive from them?

Apple Stores normally will only replace with the original or replacement HD. They will nor perform upgrades. However if you take it to an AASP they are more likely. Use this link to locate a AASP in your area and then begin calling to find out:
