iMac 2009

Want to get better than the 10/100 the Ethernet connection offers. Any hack to use the FireWire connection to get internet speeds faster than that?

I have maxed out RAM and ssd so it is as fast as it can be. We have gigabit Ethernet so would be great to up my speed!!

which 2009 imac?

A thorough search through everymac suggests that all imacs released in 2009 have Gigabit ethernet. Perhaps cabling or your router are throttling your speeds.

Thanks for the heads up! The speed has always been on "autoselect" (System Preferences => Network => Advanced => Hardware => Speed) so I assumed it could only hit 100MB. After reading your reply I selected 1000BaseT and boom Gigabit speed.

Not sure why autoseect isn't working but the work around fixed the issue.

Use Network Utility. I have a really long ethernet cable, and sometimes it gets pissy and only gives me 100mbps instead of 1000mbps

What do I use in Network Utility to check the connection? I just looked at Network Utility => Interface Information => Link Speed which reads 1 Gbit/s

I have an iMac => ethernet cable (cat 7, 4 foot cable) => AT&T Gateway

The gateway shows 1 Gbit/s on the port I am connected into.

Is there somewhere else to look in Network Utility or somewhere else to confirm the speed?

Thanks for you help!!
