Hey there,
Most likely I'm not an inventor so someone already tried that but can't really find anything about it.
I just replaced HDD in iMac 2010 for an SSD but of course there comes the thermal sensor issue. However I wondered what would happen if I take the HDD sensor and modify it's terminal pins that connects to HDD pins and solder them to optical drive sensor (which can be taped to the SSD itself).
Maybe some of you have already tried that and have any experience if that would even work?

I found it!
This guys took optical drive sensor and connected it as HDD sensor - fan worked normally. So I will buy one of those sensors, solder it to HDD connector and it should be cheaper option than this OWC cable :)

I haven't done it myself, but I have read about another work around by shorting or closing the sensor wires.

With the SSD running so much cooler than the internal HDD, this sensor probably isn't important.

If you are looking for the cheapest HW solution possible, this might be it.

Yep, this works with no issues. I tend to cut the wires, strip the cable, twist them together, and seal them with some electrical tape, and you will get no fan ramp.

Thanks for those precious suggesstion! I would also rather put some resistor between those two points as Apple systems are really sensitive (although it’s just sensor). But as Steve’s Apple in 2010 was still known for it’s well crafted design I wanted to make it look genuine (twisted cables will make me feel really bad...).
if I’ll manage to make this mod I will post it.
Cheers!
