Hi Guys,

I'm sharing the screen on my iMac 27" with my HP slimline PC using the displayport from PC to mini displayport on iMac. If i decide to upgrade the OS from High Sierra to Catalina after i find a metal graphics card ie. Nvidia GTX 765m or better. Will i lose the option of switching between screens using the Command and F2 option??? i can't remember the terminology used for this :/

I also read that upgrading from the i5 to i7 was not really worth it regarding performance, is this true? it seems people are on the fence with this upgrade. Not that i game on my Imac or use it for anything demanding it's just more of a future proofing or lastability option i always like to have. I've had my HP slimline for 12 years and is maxed out in terms of spec for my model but it's still going strong and doing what i ask of it without any problems.

I also successfully upgraded from High Sierra on my Macbook Pro 2010 2.4ghz Intel Core 2 Duo 16gb to Catalina yesterday without any hiccups. However, a few apps didn't work, not that this bothers me but i'm sure this will be fixed when future updates are released.

Have i posted this in the relevant section?

gentle bump....i need to know if i can have Target display working with an upgraded GPU? i'm thinking of the Nvidia GTX 870m what are the pros/cons of doing this? what will i lose in terms of functionality? Am i better upgrading to catalina before i change the GPU or after if i decide to buy?

Your help in the next 5 hours will help me before i lose on the purchase of this GPU.

Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know on the forum about my question??? are there no moderators in the forum to answer or to put this in the appropriate section???

I don't know about the Target Display part of your question, but there are no Nvdia graphics drivers for OSX Catalina. You might get a display with a Nvida card and Catalina, but you will get no hardware acceleration or Metal support
