ordering ram for my imac 2011. its got 4 slots, and 2x2gb chips in it.

its 80 euro for 1x8gb chip or 150 for 2x8gb,

so buying 8 is going to leave me with 12gb and one slot which i can fill at a later date.

is it okay though to have 1x8 and 2x2?

i play games both mac and bootcamp, do light indesign stuff, nothing mental, im sure ill notice a difference between 4gb and 12gb but would i really notice between 12gb and 20gb?

It is extremely unlikely you will notice the difference between 12GB and 20GB.

Only reason why I run more than 8gb of ram is because I run multiple VMs at once. If that isn't the case for you, then 12gb is plenty.
