I've done my research, but things aren't quite right, hoping someone has some help.

I endeavored to install a Vertex 3 240GB into my 2011 iMac today. That went well and is working fine. The original 1TB HDD is 50/50 partitioned OSX/Windows 7.

I used Disk Utility OSX to clone the Mac side of things to SSD. I created 1 large 240GB partition and copied. When done, I verified that I could boot to the OSX on the SSD. I could, and man was it fast!!

I ran the bootcamp assistant and created a 50/50 split on the SSD, and continued with a basic installation of Windows 7 on the SSD. When completed, I verified I could boot to that Windows 7 on the SSD. I could.

Next, I booted OSX on the SSD, and used Winclone to create an image of my Windows 7 on the original 1TB HDD (the original bootcamp partition with all my programs and files). I saved it to an external USB drive.

With that image, I again ram Winclone to restore to the Windows 7 partition of the SSD. Here's where problems begin. First, since the original partition was 465GB and the SSD partition is 111GB, Winclone would not restore. Mind you, I only have about 37GB of total data on my Windows 7 partition, so it should physically fit.

After some research, I discovered Winclone would not restore to a smaller drive without shrinking something first. In nosing around, I noticed that although my original Windows7 drive (on the 1TB HDD) shows up in Finder, the 111GB Windows 7 on the SSD does not. I checked both with Disk Utility and the original shows it's NTFS, but the one on the SSD is FAT. Well, it isn't. I booted to it and checked...it's NTFS for sure. I cannot get that new Windows 7 partition on the SSD to mount in OSX.

I think this is keeping me from using Winclone. When I shrink the original image to fit the destination, and then restore, it fails saying it cannot mount the destination.

Why is my target Windows 7 partition not showing up as NTFS?

Is there a better way to clone my original Windows 7 to the partition on my new SSD?

I can do a setup from scratch again...i'm just trying to save time!

Thanks.
