iMac 2011 SSD RAID-1 speed penalty ?

Running an SSD via Thunderbolt 1 from my old iMac 2011 I get pretty decent speed, but I am thinking of running RAID-1 to mirror the main SSD for protection and wanted to know if there was a notable speed penalty for that ?
