My iMac is 27" Core i7 3.4Ghz.
I am planning to upgrade SSD (adding an Vertex 3 240G SSD as boot drive).
However, I found a lot of Vertex 3 windows users suffered from system frozen.
I would like to know wether it would happen to Mac users? And 10.6.8 can avoid problem?
Thanks to any help.

I have added a 240gig Vertex 3 to my 27" 2011 i7 iMac running 10.6.8 and couldn't be happier..
Everything is working just fine.:)

I tried adding a 240GB OCZ Vertex 3 to mine in place of the already installed factory SSD and was only able to negotiate a 3GBPS link speed and it should've been 6. You should go with an intel 510 and you will need to use SMC Fan control to regulate your fan speed if you didn't order the factory SSD. Then you will need to do the 10.6.8 update and search google for mac trim enabler and download the patch and run it. If you're replacing the optical drive then plug it in to the existing hard drives sata cable or u wont get 6gbps and plug the existing drive into optical sata and u will maintain the 3gbps that drive is capable of.

can you post your serial-ata in system profile i want to see if youre getting 6gbps... I couldn't for the life of me so I had to go with the intel but it seems to be faster probably only because it runs at sata 3 speed

I have 2011 27" iMac and 2011 15" Macbook Pro both have 240 gb vertex 3 ssd and they work perfect at 6gbps.

I had problem when i forcefully enabled TRIM. but when i disable it everything works perfect not a single hicup no any freeze.

Thanks guys! I will put Intel 510 as my consideration.

However, I want to know a bit more.
Can you tell me which firmware you are using for your Vertex 3 240G SSD?

I called OCZ.
To check by looking at product id/number, just pay attention to last 4 digit.
If 1....1106 = FW v2.09
If 1....1105 = FW v2.08
and so on so forth.

Thanks!
It seems your Vertex 3's fw is 2.02(?)
I am thinking vertex 3, but currently all in the market should be v2.09.
Not sure it works fine in iMac or not.

Maybe you set it up wrong? Wrong sata port or something? If you look under System Profiler you should see a link speed of 6 Gigabit. Also, do you have a 2011 iMac?

They work fine. I have done a lot of research and they work perfectly - I will know for sure on Friday though. ;-)
