Hi,

I am going to attempt to upgrade my base 2012 iMac with an i7-3770s.

I am also going to upgrade to 16gb of ram and 1tb ssd at the same time.

The replacement of Ram and ssd seem pretty straight forward but the cpu looks a bit more tricky.

I was wondering if anyone else on here had carried out this upgrade before and could give me any tips/advice?

I have got some cleaner to clean of the old thermal compound , should I clean the gpu at the same time and re apply thermal paste to that at the same time (I'm using artic silver 5)?

Some people say a pea sized dot in the middle of the chip is fine others say spread it around to cover whole surface area? Does it matter?

Thanks
