New 27" owner here. I find the internal speakers fine for music, maybe slightly too strong in the high end but ..

What REALLY bugs me is trying to watch movies/TV on it. Any male voice makes an annoying humm/resonance inside the case.

I played around with ToneGen and I can replicate the problem around 138Hz (C#3).

Can anybody else try that to prove whether I'm crazy or if it's real?

My wife and I used my 2008 iMac for TV episodes and that was great with the internal speakers, would like to do the same with the new one.

Overall I love the new iMac and I will not be returning it, and I am considering buying external speakers, I just want to try every avenue before spending the time and $$ to do that.

News to me. I did download "Boom" though from the app store to address some treble-happy nature of the sound system inside the 2012. I bet you could tune out that frequency resonance that way...
