I have an iMac and am wondering if it will allow me to run a large external screen. The screen I am looking at displays at 3840 x 2160. Will my iMac will be able to drive that screen? My iMac model is:

iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013)
2.9 GHz Intel Core i5
16GB Ram

Or, do I have to stick with a 2560 x 1600 display?

Thanks for your help,
Mark

Thank for the reply, that's useful info. One last question, I was looking at some of those 43" monitors that run at 3840 x 2160. Do you know if it is possible to connect one of those to my 2013 iMac and then just run it at 2560 etc? Or is that not possible?

The reason I ask is that I will be upgrading my iMac in 18 months so I would prefer to get a 43" monitor that I could run at 3840 later. But I would still need to use it now and until I upgrade. Is it possible to run them below their max resolution? I don't want to find that it won't display at all with my current iMac.

The one I was looking at is below:

Thanks again.
