iMac 2013 - User folder on USB 3 device problem

Hi!

I have put the bulky Music, Movies and Pictures folders on an external 2 Tb USB 3 drive (2011 Samsung M3) and made aliases for the (my) user. This works great as long as the USB 3 drive is online.

But every time my iMac goes to sleep or when I lock the screen and return behind my desk I have to fix the Alias for these folders.

Anyone an idea?

Not sure if it will help, but, I used this link:

to move my ipod touch backup library off of my ssd boot drive to the orig 1 gig data drive. Perhaps instead of using aliasing, you can use hard links to your external hard drive.
