I don't know where to start as I been working on this issue all weekend. I even lost all my time machine backups on my apple airport time capsule. When I try to mount it shows that it can't be mounted. I am not able to even do a system restore no matter if we do a complete shut down or restart and hold the command and r key down it just goes to home screen we can't even get to the system recovery to be able to do a complete restore. We even try making a bootable usb drive with Mac OS Catalina and boot up that way. But the usb drive doesn't show up on the bootable drives to be able to get it to start up. We were able to do a system restore on my Mac OS MacBook which doesn't have a fusion drive. We even went out and bought a new external drive WD 8TB and anytime do any time machine it will do it maybe a few times then it comes up with errors again and again and never finishes. I don't like the every hour to do the time machine is there away to do it without having to do it every single hour that seems to be extreme and then losing 5 yrs of on my apple airport time capsule to pay $300 for 3TB and now I lost all my files on there which were important to me due to alot of stuff from my husband who passed away 16 months ago are gone! Is my iMac and my apple airport time capsule basically garbage? The money I spent on this fusion drive with 2TB to only last 5 yrs is crazy. I have a MacBook Pro 13in Touch Bar 1TB glad no fusion drive. Weird you pay extra for fusion drive and its worthless now because it causes nothing but issues. I don't want to end up losing my 27in iMac because not able to get to restore. I am able to still do things on it but saving is an issue and worried that there are times it won't restart or shut down when it freezes. I am just at a lost. I am pretty tech savvy as well as my son who went to technical school and he can't even figure it out. He was able to get done on my MacBook Pro with no problems and he mad the bootable usb Mac OS Catalina but we just can't figure it out. I know there is alot of errors as I did some research on the computer files and also there was a file that was sent to apple but with my iMac not under warranty anymore I don't think I will ever hear from apple and they probably charge to talk to me online or do any service on this. The stores are probably closed right now as well. So please if you can help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

why was I able to do a complete restore on my MacBook Pro using the mac's recovery but not able to with my iMac 2015 with fusion drive? It makes no sense to me why one I can get to the recovery but the one with fusion drive its not able to get to that part to do a complete restore. ugh!

No idea, for me this completely solved the issue though, and it was a 5 min fix to the boot arguments. The posting also said that this issue has been fixed in the dev version of the next patch.

To be honest I have NO idea what you're rambling about. I read your post three times now and still, nothing.
I think you need to sit down, calm down, and try to explain your issue again. And maybe consider punctuation, and adding paragraphs to improve readability. Some of your sentences are spanning over four lines, start with the iMac and end with a WD rant.

Because as is I'm afraid nobody will be able to help you because nobody will be able to understand what you are talking about and what your problem is.

OP:

Can you get booted to the finder at all?

Like mj wrote -- we can't figure out what you're talking about.

Try a "safe boot" -- reboot and hold the shift key down for a while.
Does that make any difference?

DO NOT be fooling with your backups right now. You don't want to damage that drive.
