Some time ago I bought a late 2015 27" iMac sold as not working. I localised the fault, it is the GPU. Called the local, independent repair shop specialised on anything Apple and asked if they could reball it. The answer was yes, but it would not be worth it. I asked if he means from an economic standpoint and he meant no, he means it is not worth it technically as the repair will not hold. He told me he can reball the GPU for me if I wish but in a matter of weeks or with luck a few months, or no matter how long but it will happen, the faul will reappear.

What is the consensus here? Did such repairs hold up in the long therm with this specific (or similar) iMac model? It very well could be the guy just was not capable of doing this repair but will not recognise that.

Yes, I know about the pink issue with the iMac 2015. Besides the screen on this copy is also cracked. Even so the money he stated for the repair is in the region of what I would pay to get the iMac working. That is if the repair holds.

This circumstance can be applied the same concept for a 2025 imac, if the GPU and screen was cracked
The unit is not worth reballing or repairing

I would fix it if the cost was less than 50$.

I asked from a pure technical viewpoint. I would invest the required price of the repair if I know the repair will hold. (The financial aspect is already clear.)
