sadly thinking there’s something wrong with my 2017 iMac 27“. Unfortunately although I took out an extended warranty it was the shops own rather than Apple care. If it was Apple care I could take it to the authorised repair centre rather than if I take it to the shop I bought it to it,l be away for a month as sent off to Apple on mainland.

basically I can’t be certain but lots of little things make me think it’s either a power issue or a usb and Bluetooth issue. Weird thing is my g4 mirror doors died of a power supply issue then my iMac 2011 did.

mostly it works fine. Problem Started when I dropped my Apple keyboard and a letter broke and I couldn’t get it fixed. I dug out my two really old Apple keyboards from my 2011 iMac and 2009 mini. One was fine but really really dirty so I stupidly sprayed cleaner on it and after that it kept putting random key presses which I put down to me ruining the keyboard. Swapped to the other one and it was fine but the Z key didn’t work. Again. Really old keyboard. Then the z worked and the O didn’t but only when shift was down. Weird.

so bought a microsoft keyboard and mouse combo. Stupid buy as it takes its Bluetooth from the Mac and whenever I restart into bootcamp I had to pair it again and then again when back into Mac OS. Real pain especially as I play a lot of fallout 4.

anyway it would have been bad enough to have pair the keyboard and mouse every time but often I would have a problem pairing the keyboard both in Mac but mainly in windows. And I’d keep pairing it but nothing would type and Normally I’d have to restart the Mac.

then twice during a zoom lesson the mouse went weird as in it would be really jumpy almost like when you are playing a game in a really low frame rate. So I’d move the mouse to click on something in the browser and it’s shoot across the screen and activate my screen saver.

so gave up and bought a hp combo as it has a small Bluetooth receiver which goes into the usb. Overall better but sometimes the mouse is jumpy.

also the other day a friend asked me to put some movies on a memory stick. I dragged lots of files and it’s copied then one wasn’t copying and it gave an error. I took it out and put it in again and It said it wasn’t formatted. Reformstted it as exfat and copied about 20 movies and took it into work. On my work pc it said it was empty. Tried it on my bosses MacBook. Empty. Copied one file into it and tried it in a tv. It saw the one file.

so none of these things in separation is definitely the iMac. It could have been two really old keyboards that had been damaged by cleaning or age. The Microsoft keyboard could have been rubbish or duff or maybe keyboards get confused being paired thst often. The memory stick might be duff.

or does it point to something wrong with the Mac ? tech tools says it’s fine.
