Upgraded my iMac 27" Late-2014 with 1TB Fusion Drive to new iMac 27" 2019 with 2 TB Fusion Drive (chosen this model because don't have option for custom config with SSD, but wanted at least normal 128 Gb SSD). Turned it on and was shocked with annoying noise from APPLE HDD ST2000DM001. It's constant spinning noise from HDD audible from a distance of 2 meters. It's not a fan or power transformer.

It's constant noise from HDD motor all the time computer turned on. I'm shocked, my previous iMac was totally silent...

Has anyone encountered a similar problem?

It should be silent, I only have the 1 TB fusion but can't heard it at all.
I also ordered a 1TB FD 2019 iMac. I hope you're right

Mine is 1TB Fusion and I was shocked at how silent it was compared to my late 2009 iMac. It is COMPLETELY silent. Awesome.

I’m shocked at the amount of people in here with fusion drives. Why? What are you guys even thinking? Save up the extra cash, it’s the one upgrade on the iMac you should be spending money on.

In my case, I got the fusion drive thinking I could easily install a SATA SSD, but little did I know there are now newer SSD's like the NVMe PCIe that are so much faster. And apple's blade ssd is exactly that. so I really regretted choosing the fusion drive because installing a 3rd party nvme ssd is not super compatible like the OEM SSD. Maybe I'll buy a Samsung X5 or build my own external NVMe SSD + USB 3.1 Gen 2 enclosure.

Thank you for your concern.

We've certainly got differences on what's audible or not.

I bought my Fusion Drive equipped 2017 5K iMac 2nd hand. I haven't had an HDD in any computer I've used for almost 10 years. Starting the iMac for the first time brought back so many old memories; the hissing, ticking and (lack of) speed. Truly amazing.

I split the Fusion drive and unmounted the HDD in Disk Utility. This is my back up plan until I open finally up the computer and remove it completely.

My house is very quiet though, I had a similar situation thinking the Mac Pro 5.1 was way too loud while people claimed it was "dead silent".
