I see a lot of reviews and benchmarks scattered around this forum and thought it would be good to gather them in one place. :)

- Post rather reviews with benchmarks, performance results or useful info about the hardware, like heat, thermal throttling and fan noise than unboxing videos with info that already can be found on Apple's website or been posted here.

- If you can write which model the review is about so we can easier find our preferred model.

- Try to stay on topic so we can find the reviews and benchmarks fast and easy without having to go through 300+ pages like some other discussions.

Here are some already published results:

iMac 3.1 6-core 5300

Gaming on Windows

iMac 3.3 6-core 5300

Gaming: Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Doom Eternal, Deus Ex Mankind Devided

iMac 3.8 8-core 5500 XT

iMac 8-core 5500 XT vs. Mac Pro 16-core Vega II. Jump to around 07:40.

iMac 3.6 10-core 5500 XT

There are several more reviews and previews but they don't add anything useful that we don't already know.

Depending on your use case it may be prudent to schedule a purchase of an iMac by year 2024.

Keen to find what the sustained frequency of the 10 core with a 5700xt under load and how loud it is.

I really wish reviewers would focus on this rather than omg the bezels. Fan noise under load is a massive deciding factor when using a computer inches from your face, but it's usually overlooked by reviewers who are more concerned about being first and harvesting likes. Frustrating.

Up to 85 °C GPU temperature under full GPU load with the Radeon Pro 5300 with "silent" (problably slowly spinning) fans. High temps and low noise are to be expected because Apple makes the fan only spin up at very high (90+ °C) temps.

The 5700 and 5700 XT will probably generate much more heat, so we will see how well the cooling does:

I agree. Most "reviews" so far have been quite superficial and I never understood this weird obsession with the bezels on a DESKTOP computer. On the contrary, I prefer thick bezels because the seperate the image more from the background behind the iMac.

My wife’s b’day is Sunday and it’s time to replace her 2011. What little I’ve been able to glean is that the new 27” is ideal for videoconferencing—pretty much how she makes her living nowadays. She doesn’t need a high-end but the nano-glass will solve a lighting problem—timing can’t be better.

These reviews are terrible, though. Not one has shown a picture of the back. I’m assuming that RAM is user replaceable but no review has mentioned this. Can anyone confirm? Apple’s RAM prices are still insane, of course.

My machine is a 14 Core iMac Pro with a Vega 64. Nothing here that makes me want to give up mine — but her needs are different.

The 5700 XT vs Vega 64 reviews out there are for gamers using PCs. All talk about the need for extra fans and thermal shut down and bla, bla, bla... Totally useless when talking about an OE card in a Mac. Apple underclocks to improve reliability at the expense of the bleeding edge—and that’s fine by me. She doesn’t do video editing and is not a gamer anyway so I can save my money. In any case, it’s certain that the 5700 XT in the 2020 iMac is unlikely to outperform the Vega 64X in the iMP.

If Apple makes a similar bump to the iMac Pro, I’m ready to place an order. I want 8TB storage onboard and the nano-glass but with the superior cooling of the iMP.

Who in the world really believes this is the last Intel iMac? Apple has Intel bumps scheduled for the next 3 years. I don’t believe we’ve seen the last version of these.

On the 27" ram is replaceable. There's an unboxing video that confirms this. Door is still there on the back.

And I think once the Apple Silicon iMac 27/32" ship, the intel based boxes will be dead. Schedules are meant to be changed and if the economics make sense, they will keep them, if not they will die.

Is there any feedback on the nano texture glass that explains whether durability might be an issue longer term? I love the idea in principle, but the little I've read about it points to longevity being a factor if you're planning to use a machine for more than a few years.

My previous 27" iMac was a 2012, that I've used on and off for the past 8 years. It served me really well, as did the one prior. I love the nano texture in principle, and am tempted to re-order a machine with it. But concerned a little about durability.

There are reviews that show the RAM door and Apple clearly writes on its website that the memories are "user accessible" so lot of such information can easily be found on Apple's website.

Better cooling helps the components last longer. That's the reason people hope these new iMacs have better cooling. Thermal throttling (as I wrote) is not the same as thermal shutdown. Thermal throttling means that the CPU or GPU downclocks to prevent shutdown. So I haven't seen anybody talking about shutdown, only throttling. As you say Apple already underclocks its CPUs and GPUs in many cases to prevent problems but it doesn't always prevent throttling. So no, it's not useless talks to many with other needs than yours.

According to Geekbench Metal results Pro 5700XT can actually outperform Pro Vega 64X but that's just one test.

What's the source of your information about "Apple has Intel bumps scheduled for the next 3 years"? Tim Cook himself said that the transition to AS is done in two years across all Macs. Many in the world, including big tech guys believe this is the last Intel iMac. Sure, they will update other Intel Macs during the next two years, like Mac Mini that hasn't been updated since 2018 and iMac Pro since 2017 (besides the base CPU) but considering that Apple has updated iMac every 20 months since 2015 and is launching AS iMac next year you can bet that this is the last Intel iMac. That's why they went all in with 10th gen Intel CPUs in all iMacs 27" (in contrast to before when they had 8th gen in the cheaper 27" and 9th gen only in the top 27") and Radeon 5700 and 5700XT, two GPUs nobody thought would fit in 27". :)

I agree I'd be very suprised to see another Intel based iMac as I expect all the macs to have switched to Apple silicon by the end of next year (yes even the Mac Pro). There's a few reasons for this. We already know that the performance of the A12z is around the same as the lower end macs, so would expect a more up to date A chip with proper cooling to be pretty zippy. There's also an advantage to Apple to transition as quickly as possible so that there's only one chip type to support going forward (there may be only a couple new OS11 updates to Intel macs after Big Sur bfore they switch to security updates). Finally Apple have announced they'll transition in two years, so it's unlikley they'll launch an Intel mac if it was going to be replaced quickly (I'm sure they don't want another iMac G5 type issue).

I put together the specs for the whole AMD Pro 5000-series in MBP/iMac/Mac Pro for comparison. I also included specs for RX cards that pc users buy or you can use as eGPU with Mac. Many tests on Youtube for example show the result for RX cards which are faster than Pro cards in Macs. The specs are from AMD's website.

5300 in iMac is like 5500M in MBP in terms of TFLOPS. 5500XT is like 5600M in MBP.

Cool. This lets me order 16GB now and upgrade later if her needs change. Unlike my AV work, her most demanding apps are Word, Zoom and FileMaker

I wouldn't order 16GB now. Just get the base 8GB and add RAM it yourself. Unlike every other Mac Apple sells aside from the Mac Pro, upgrading the RAM in the 27" iMac is really easy.

Yea, that was a typo. Am ordering 8 now and will get 32GB from OWC ($139) or Crucial (?) after receive it.

I’m an experienced Mac tech but don’t like cracking the case while still under AppleCare.

Your warranty will not be affected by upgrading the RAM on this particular Mac. It's not like trying to upgrade the RAM on the Mac Mini (or even worse iMac Pro).

iMac 3.8 8-core 5500XT

The other good review I've seen. Props to Max Tech'. Plenty of benches. Here are the temps. Simples.

No changes to the cooling!

iMac 3.3 6-core 5300 Teardown

A musician's review

iMac 3.6 10-core 5700XT

The same iFan. Disappointing. Clearly worked on the efficiencies of the cpu and gpus.

Should have just used the iMac Pro chassis and cooling.
