Hi all, unfortunately I have a 21.5" 2010 iMac with a number of problems. These problems happened when I was attempting an SSD upgrade - I apologise if any of these questions have been asked before.
- The "Display Data Cable" that connects the display to the logic board has a bent/broken connector. I have found several online stores that sell replacements, all have poor online reviews.
Questions:
1. How much would a retail Apple repair store charge to replace and reinstall this part?
2. How difficult is it to damage the connector on the logic board and how is the cable actually installed? I cannot tell if I am struggling to connect it because I have broken the clip, or I am just installing it incorrectly.
3. If the connector on the logic board is broken, does this mean the computer is essentially finished?
Problem 2:
During the SSD upgrade procedure, the glass panel over the screen got smashed. I couldn't believe how easily it broke. I have received quotes for $180 - $280 for a replacement.
Questions:
1. Is it possible to replace the panel for cheaper?
2. I have found panels for approximately $100 on eBay. Is this a good idea?
3. I have noticed that different 21.5" iMac models apparently require different glass, and therefore mine is more expensive. Can anyone tell me how the glass actually differs and if a different panel will work?
4. Can anyone who has ever purchased a replacement glass panel please tell me what you did and how it went.
The iMac has an extended warranty plan with over a year left.
Finally:
How much would these problems reduce the iMac's value?
For instance, would it be wiser to sell it in its current state than repair it and sell afterwards?
Thanks very much for any advice - and I apologise if any of these questions have been asked before.
