Hi,

I'm buying an iMac 21.5" next week (the smallest standard configuration).

I know that there is space for an SSD in the iMac under the SuperDrive, but is it possible for me to put one in myself, when I get the need? Or is that a no go (I know it breaks warranty).

Thanks

Go have a look at OWC macsales.com I'm sure they were doing some kind of kit for it. There are probably some bits missing from the iMac if you don't configure it from Apple with an SSD. Also I'm pretty sure the hard drives that ship with new iMacs run an apple specific firmware for temperature management, so if you take out the factory hdd all the fans go mental.
There is the option to put the ssd in place of the optical drive.

Good luck..

I looked into this several weeks ago and in doing so read lots of posts on the topic as well as checked out OWC and others. When it comes to trying to add an SSD to the 21" your screwed. No one makes the bracket necessary to hold the drive, you can perhaps fudge something up on your own, but if you want an SSD in the 21" you have to get it from Apple.
