I am not a professional and use Aperture at least weekly, processing a few to several 100 photos at a time. I will be migrating from a 2009 MBP with 8 GB RAM and a 256GB HD. I am trying to hold costs without sacrificing too much in performance. i have 3 1T backup exterior drives for Time machine and Photo storage.

Would this suffice
Core i5 2.7 ghz
16GB ram
1T Fusion

Is there really a reason to upgrade to a 2.9 or i7 3.1. Not really in the budget. I would like the convenience of having all the main photo libraries on the computer to take advantage of Carbonite backup. They are not backed up when they are on my external drive....yes much redundancy but I have had a failed exteranl drive.

Thought appreciated.

How would I know if i need nividia

I do not do gaming, stream videos etc. mainly Word processing, photo editing in aperture and internet surfing.
