iMac 21.5" Vertical Black Line/Mark down left hand side of screen.

Hi,

I have only recently started noticing this, it is mostly visible on the white screen at boot up but just faintly noticed it now against my background.

It is a fading black line going down the left hand side of the screen, it starts at the top kind of fades in the middle then comes out again.

I honestly have no idea what this is, i will try catch a picture on my phone soon and post it up.

UPDATE: Sometimes the line is clear, sometimes it is faint and even sometimes it isn't even there!

If it has been like that from new, it maybe a mark on the inside of the glass screen cover.

If you're near to an Apple store or Apple approved repairer, they could remove the cover and clean it.

Ok Lol, i really need help with this, it isnt really noticable when ur using it but, you know.

Today I noticed a line too, that looks the same as yours.
It was this morning, when I started my Mac up. At the grey startup screen, I could see it clearly.
So after it was done booting up, I made a totally white wallpaper... to see if the stripe was still there. And it wasn't.
So then I started to think I was seeing something that wasn't there.

But a few minutes ago I rebooted my machine and I saw it again.
Again I took the white wallpaper... but once again it was gone.

What is this stripe? What's causing it?

personally that looks like some pressure is/has been applied onto the LCD backpane, and is producing the marks....

I just notice the same thing on my iMac i3 (mid-2010)

I will be replacing the hard drive within the next few days so I will try to clean the screen and see if it disappears. However I don't think its a smudge or dirt; it looks like a LCD problem.

Uhhh... so I was just about to take my iMac into the store to get checked but before I packed everything up I noticed my black vertical lines disappeared.

Literally overnight the problem is gone. I don't get it...

I'll update my post if it comes back. I'm a little more worried now; if the problem is so sporadic it will be hard to have the Genius diagnose it and get fixed.
