Today I've managed to upgrade stock Imac 24 3.06 ati4850 (early 2009) from 4gb ram to 8gb and 1tb wd black to 256gb samsung ssd.
Ram was very easy to replace and quite cheap (less than 140GBP).
It took me about an hour to replace hard drive. Everything was very easy, apart from taking out hard drive (took me 20min to find right tutorial). I have used ocz 2.5 to 3.5 adaptor for mounting new ssd. It's shorter than regular 3.5 hard drive, so I had to use only 2 screws. Just to be sure it won't move, I used some tape on the other side of the adaptor (one without screws).
Overall I'm happy with it, everything seems working very fast and for the cost of ram (140GBP) and ssd (under 200GBP). I hope I'll be pleased with it for at least next 2 years, until Apple releases new Imac which will be worth changing to.
If anyone has any questions, I'll be happy to answer :)

Do you still happen to have the tutorial you used over a year ago? I just ordered SSDs for my early 2009 iMAC.
