Hello all, I'm new to the forum, and would like to say how I've enjoyed reading all your interesting and helpful conversations for so many years. Since getting my first mac in 1997 (OS6) I've never had serious trouble, nothing I couldn't solve in half an hour, but now I'm joining, unfortunately today's the day.
My iMac 24" (10.5.8) bought late 2007 is away for repairs with a dead screen - so sorry, that's the only info I can give on my system for the moment.
Since repairs to the screen will be £500 plus to replace the screen "deck" (I'm in France so different terminology) and since my 500Gb hard disk also had to be replaced three weeks ago, I'm unwilling to spend much on an ageing machine, and am thinking of waiting to update and get a macbook pro 10.9. and a new Adobe licence (I'm on CS3 and stupidly didn't get the deadline for CS6) etc etc, what fun.
In the meantime I thought I'd forget the repair to the screen and instead connect up my old M6204ZM CRT 21" Apple studio display (VGA connection). I'm sure it'll work but am concerned about the resolution and distortion, and how the Wacom Intuos3 tablet will respond, as it will map to the dead screen not the 21" monitor etc.
Any thoughts on the resolution I'll have available?
Any how, I'm getting the imac back Friday (with dead screen) and will see how it goes.
PS : is it possible that a USB conflict caused the iMac screen to die? Otherwise the engineer said mine's the 3rd 24" imac of that generation he's received this week with the same expensive trouble. Rats, I smell one
