Hello,
i would like to use the digital output jack (the same for the headphones) to connect to a stereo integrated amplifier using the digital signal converted via an external DAC.
What adapters and cables will i need to connect the digital output to the external DAC?

Another question: can i use the mini display port to use the digital sound signal
to an external DAC? In this case what kind of adapter would i need?

Thanks in advance.

I have only time to answer the first question.

You need to have adapter or the imac end side of the cable a toslink "3.5 jack".
In this photo, the left one is the one that goes to imac.

Use adapter or ready made cable. There are optical cables that can be changed to a normal and the little jack either way.

Thanks for the answer.
Where did you find the cable/adapter?

Those pictures are just examples. There are tons of differend brands. I bought mine from my local electronic/hifi store. You should check yours, or just buy them online. Just dont buy any extra, digital cables are either working or not. There are no "sound quality" betweem them. After all, its just digital binary 0 and 1's :)
