imac 24 - Snow Leopard - undo migration

We have two imacs 24 inch with snow leopard running on them. One imac had problems and would not boot up anymore whatever we did.

Since we did not save the data we migrated the data of one mac to the other mac by firewire.

Now the problem is that on the mac where the data was migrated to everything previously active is disabled and seems to be gone.

e. g. There is vmware with windows on it - gone - when I click on the vmware button it asks to install vmware. I cannot find any of the
programs of this mac anymore - the migrated data took over. How can I get everything back to the previous status on the other mac?
