Hi, I'm curious if anyone around here ever replaced the LED strips for the iMac 27" - late 2009, or similar.
  • I know it's old, but still works great for me 😎.
  • The screen is awesome for my editorial work, it just consumes way too much energy 😢
I have other more powerful computers, processing power is not the problem. I just don't see myself easily letting go of this screen, I know eventually I'll have to retire it, and a good option is to turn the whole computer into a standalone display (with the video controller boards available on the market).

The problem is, those boards require around 120W of power (be it in 12V or 24V), and to my knowledge, most of that power is consumed by the LEDS.

I've watched a video tutorial of someone replacing the LEDS, and there are some others purely picture based, I think I can handle this. Probably it's much to ask, but I don't know if someone around here ever replaced the strips and noticed a difference in heating or power consumption.

Any info will be appreciated.
