Hi there, I'm very new to the forum, I'm also new to Mac.. For Christmas I received an iMac 27" with 16GB Ram, 2GB Graphics and 1TB Hard drive.. I was wondering if anyone could give me some hints and tips for the Mac? :D

Thanks,
Arthur

Tip 1. It's a 2011 iMac.

Tip 2. You have 2GB of VRAM. Why not play some games like Starcraft 2, COD 6, BF3, etc?

Tip 3. You have 27" iMac for the love of God! That is ginormous! Why don't you try playing some 1080p videos on it, and enjoy your little movie theather? I wish I could do that :D

Tip 4. DO NOT TOUCH the screen with your finger. Not only is the screen ginormous and glossy, you can easily view the finger prints/oils on the screen when it's turned off. It just looks god awful in my opinion. It's not a touch screen! :)

Tip 5. Ask specific questions, like what are some productive ways to use an iMac, or what are some essential/unique apps that will work on iMac?, or What kind of games do you play on your iMac? Stuff like that. It always helps the users to reply with the information that you would want.

Tip 6. Welcome to Mac universe! :D

Hahaha, Thanks Seong :p

I have actually watched a lot of movies on it since I've had it! :D

Graphics are amazing! :O - Even though I do have screen cleaning fluid I do try not to touch the screen at all, sometimes if I have a friend round or something they do something really irritating like point at something on the screen and you just feel like hitting them grrr haha!

I'll think of some questions, I probably have loads xD

Tip 7) These high-gloss screens are a whole lot easier to use without any lights glaring off them.

Tip 8) As you've probably figured out by now that iMac is a piece of junk. Sell it to me for $500, you won't find a better offer.

Haha, I know how you feel when others touch your imac's screen.
Yea, let the questions roll in!

If it's that bad then why would you want to buy it off of me?

----------

If I had an adapter.. How many external screens could I have plugged in? (Bearing in mind my graphics card is the 2GB Radion)

It depends.
If you get the 1k ATD you can get several but you can put 2 monitors in easily, you just need to get adapters.

Tip 9) Dont listen to the trolls on Macrumors

Tip 10) if you get a thunderbolt equipped mac laptop, you can use the iMac as a display.

tip 11) get an external hard drive for time machine back ups

tip 12) when you upgrade your ram in a few years, do it on your own.

tip 13) enjoy!

I actually went and bought a G DRIVER from Apple yesterday, 2TB for only 179,99 :3

Unfortunatly its only FW 800 so Thunderbolt isn't something I have had the pleasure of testing yet! took ages to back up 400GB with Firewire though.. Would it have been alot quicker with Thunderbolt?

**ALSO**

Thank you everyone for your contributions! :3 - I' have only been on the forum for around 6 hours and every question I have had to throw at you all has been answered within 30 minutes! :D

Thats a good price! especially with the rising HD prices.

It probably would have been faster with TB, but if you are just using it for time machine its more then enough. You should feel bad for me, I am using a USB 2 drive!
