I have an Retina 5k iMac 27" (2020) that after several days of software troubleshooting with Apple Support that still continues to shut down on its own randomly. The operating system has bee reinstalled twice and I did a clean install of Ventura as well. I received 2 error messages during the troubleshooting process. The first one was "A third party kernel extension is preventing the machine form booting..." and the second was "Volume hash mismatch was detected on disk 1s4. MacOS should be reinstalled on this volume. I have my machine for approximately 2 years. I am assuming that this is a hardware issue, but unless I drive 300+ miles to the nearest authorized service facility, no one can or will provide any way to resolve this issue. The tech guy I worked with told me that this is an "indexing" issue. If this is, in fact, a hardware issue, what besides the logic board could be causing this to occur? I would appreciate any help you might be able to provide as I would love to have a working Mac again rater that a $1600 paper weight. Thanx in advance! Billy R.

Maybe install MacOS on an external drive, and boot from the external drive. This might help narrow down the source of the issue?

OP:

Try this first.

Go to the "users & groups" preference pane.

Click the lock and enter your password.

Now, click the "+" sign to add a NEW account.

Make sure you give it administrative privileges.
Give it any name and password you wish -- it's only temporary.

Once created, LOG OUT of your "regular" account, and "log into" your temp account.
You can set up things as needed within it for now.

Try using this a day or two.
Do the random shutdowns continue, or do they end?

If they end -- the problem may be something in your "regular" account.
Finding what it is (however), can be "a job".
