iMac 27" brand new with randomly KP

Hey!

I have just received my new iMac 27 with i7 and 16 GB of RAM (which i've installed).

I bought this computer 28 september this year and when i first started the computer it began to update lion.

After this update, it did a second update. This time it wanted to update my thunderbolt port (?) and i allowed it with a sequence of rebooting. When it rebooted for the first time it gave me a Kernel Panic.

When i go back to Lion after my KP, i see that thunderbolt update is ready to be installed again, so i tried it for the second time and it also gave me a KP.

Tried it a third time and it seems to work then because i havent any updates to go.

Now i've got 4 KP's when i try to shut down my vmware with windows 7. It also runs very smooth for a while and sometimes it get extreamly slow, i see this also in Lion. Vmware allocated 2 CPU's and 8GB ram.

Did a Memtest and it passed for 2 cycles and 0 errors.

What do you guys think its wrong here? Its a little bit scary when my brand new iMac give me 6 KP's in 5 days...
 
Have you still got the original RAM (you said you installed your own 16GB) ?

if so I would take out the 16 and reinstall the original and see how that goes.
 
Yes, i have those 4GB original RAM here. I will try that thanks.

Dont know if memtest (rember) is a good utility but it has passed without any problems. Do you think that i should try reputting the original ones anyway?
 
I think that would be the first thing to try (as its a new machine, and the only thing changed has been the RAM).

running it will at least prove or disprove the memory for you. if its still KP'ing then it will be time to delve deeper.

Running a permissions check would be the next step I would take if the original ram also exhibits similar issues.

Had a similar error dump when upgrading my RAM....Turned out I hadn't seated the new ones properly can't see why your's would have moved but looks memory related to me. Could try re-seating the memory modules, but maybe one or more has gone bad?
 
Hey again!

When i wrote this thread , i checked my RAMs and also reseated them. It worked flawlessly for about 2 weeks.

Now im getting this problems again. When i switch off the computer , i get almost immediately Kernel Panic. Or sometimes i get it when i switch off Windows from VMWare.
Hope someone can help me because this is strange to me that a so nice computer, brand new with i7 and all that.. :mad:

Oh a new problem related to my iMac.. :(

Now when i try to wake up the computer from sleep it all goes black screen. Nothing happens when i touch the mouse or press a key at keyboard. Even if i press caps lock i cant see green light..

And now, every time i shut down either vmware or osx i get KP..
 
It is most likely software NOT hardware. Which is easily fixed by re-installing everything from scratch then the problem goes away. Uninstall Virtualbox if you are using VMware as it may be causing issues as well. It's most likely what you have installed on it.
If the problem does not go away then you have the answer that it is hardware and you can get it fixed.

As some have suggested
Reinstall the original ram
Reinstall osx
Bring the computer to its most original state. No problems? Then install new ram . Test. No problems? Then install win7. Test. Etc. Step by step you will find what is wrong

If computer has KP in its original state, return it to Apple for replacement
