Hi to all.

I have the Late 2015 iMac 27" and i was thinking of updating the CPU and the Hard Drive.
So i try to install via ifixit these CPU's:

Intel i7-7700K & Intel i7-6700K?

Also i change the drive with: 2TB SSD Sandisk - SUCCESS

Specs of My mac:

iMac "Core i5" 3.3 27-Inch (5K, Late 2015)
Retina 5K, Late 2015 ID iMac17,1 A1419 (EMC 2834)
16RAM GB
VRAM 2 GB AMD

I also include a video witht the Installation Step by Step [ I hope i can do this in the forum :) ]

Conclusion as seen in the Video:

i7-7700K = Will NOT work.....
i7-6700K = WILL WORK!! Smooth and nicelly!!! SUCCESS
2TB SSD Sandisk: PERFECT!

Any known reason why i7-7700K Won’t work?

Although the specs are the same (91W, Same RAM with the i7-6700K etc) the processor seems to be incombatible woth the Logic Board, i think that the Bios of the Logic Board, the firmware atc, that supports the i5 to i7-6700K and Apple sells as the LATE 2015 27" MAC, is not compatible with this processor.

Nice job. I'll be doing the same thing. How did the cutting around the display go? 6700k does get toasty. What thermal paste did you use?

Thanks!
It is very very easy to cut it.
Carefully with the tool by the OWC (i will post a photo in a while) it is easy.
I used the Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste.

There is no microcode for the 7th gen intel CPU on your logicboard (motherboard) for the iMac 2015
The 2017 iMac has the microcode, so it recognizes the 7th gen series CPU, both the i5 and i7 variety

Hi I am looking to do a similar upgrade to my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015) iMac17,1 Quad-Core Intel Core i5 3.2 GHz.
Can you tell me if the Intel i7-6700K is the fastest CPU you can put in this particular imac?
Can you put an i9?
Is the speed upgrade from the i5 to i7 that noticeable?

Also is there any issues with the fans running all the time when you swap out the hard drive for an SSD?

I have 1867 MHz dimms installed, is this the fastest ram I can use?

Thanks for all you help
Peter

Thank you for the nice vedio.
BTW, does your IMac have a 'Fusion Disk Driver', is there a SSD disk in the red circle shown as the picture?
