New guy here :)

If I get a IMac 27 5k Retina with 16 GB of SDRAM (2x8GB )

Where do I get the other 2x8GB of SDRAM to make it 32GB ?
Or do I fork out the $400 and go for 32 GB when I buy the machine ?
Seems a bit ridiculous to pay that much don't talk think

I'm quessing I need a total of 4 x 8Gb cards to maker a 32GB system.
I'm smart like that kinda sorta.

Thanks in advance

Two trusted vendors are Crucial (buy it direct from Crucial) and Other World Computing (www.macsales.com). OWC makes a kit for the upgrade, I don't believe Crucial has a kit but they can help and are likely less expensive. Buy the computer with just 8 GB (2x4GB), when it arrives install the upgraded RAM yourself.

Here's the Crucial RAM that's compatible. Agreed with rkaufmann87 -- don't upgrade the Apple RAM to 16GB, just get the default 8GB, and buy 2 16GB kits from Crucial for the same price it would have cost you to upgrade 8->16.

Crucial seems to be out of stock on those right now, but if you search Amazon for the part number you should be able to find the same kit there.

Cool and thanks. Didn't really know where to get the RAM.

Imac is a big purchase. Don't think I've spent this kinda money before on a computer.
Still debating on the 290 vs 295 card. I don't Game but I plan on doing some rookie musician type video editing so ? I keep reading about Fan and Heat issues on the 295 and its $250 more. UGH

FWIW, I'm getting closer to getting a YES to purchase a IMac from the wife now that I'm forced to use her MacBook Pro to do all the stuff my old 2003 Windows XP won't do
