I've asked this in the apple forums, but I want to ask here also:
I inherited my dad's 27" iMac 2 years ago. While I love it, the video card has died. I can't afford to keep having it repaired, and to be honest, it drives me nuts that I can't fix and upgrade it myself. I've already had to shell out money to replace the hard drive (though that was refunded after the recall.) I'm throwing in the towel and building a gaming pc.
The question is, while I know I could use the imac with a display port-to-display port cable, I don't know if it's still possible with the dead video card.
Also, could I format the hard drive externally to become an external pc hard drive? I'd like to salvage as much function from it as possible.
