iMac 27" wont read SD card help

I just purchased an imac 27. Unfortunately im new to the apple world and still addicted to android phones. I have a note 3 and wanted to transfer the photos to iphoto. I installed Kies but I figured simply unmounting the sd card from the phone and plugging it in would be easier to import the photos to iphoto. When i plug the sd card in all it says is loading nothing else.

Is there anything I can do?

The disk is coming up as MOT if that helps
