Hi,

Wondered if anybody could advise.

I gave my old iMac (2nd Gen EMC 2058 non iSight, non Intel) 20" to my nephew a few years ago and he's been suffering the famous random shutdown problem (total shutdown after 20 minutes). Used to have loud fan issues but this hasn't been an issue recently.

I've done my research and come across the SMU and PRAM resets and talk of replacing logic boards and power supplies.

QUESTION: Will I be able to perform the PRAM procedure upon restart with a BLUETOOTH keyboard or will connection be lost.

Also wondered what sort of price replacement power pack / logic board incurs? Is it worth it?

Cheers guys.

Steve.

I think you need USB keyboard for that, at least it'll work.

Replacing logic board PSU is nowhere worth it for non-Intel Mac, so you have to get a new one or live with the issue :(
