imac 2nd generation LCD panel replacement question

Hello everyone, I'm new here. I recently dropped my 20' imac model iMac5, intel core 2 duo (2007 white model) right before the new silver and black model. The thing fell off my desk and the panel cracked. I am using it with an external monitor. Is too expensive to replace.

Can I buy a first generation 20' G5 lcd panel (2004 model) from ebay? They look exactly the same. Any help appreciated!

If it is not too expensive and there are good directions online on how to replace the screen then I would try it, otherwise sell it for parts and get the new alum iMac OR buy yourself an Apple care warranty off E-bay and have it replaced by Apple.
