So after fiddling with it for a week and finally taking it in to the Apple store, they confirmed that the HD is dead. Running the SMART utility from ONYX and the drive utilities which come with OS Lion, they both did not find any problems.

Under the warranty obviously the HD is getting replaced for free.

Has anybody else had this happen this early??? thanks.
