Hello to all of the forum members,

I have been running a 14" iBook for the past 4 years and have finally moved upward and onward to a 17" iMac.

Its a few years old now but in great shape, picked it up used a few days ago.

I think that a RAM and HDD upgrade would drastically improve the performance of it. The current set up is :

Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 1 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz

My plan was to upgrade the RAM to 3gb (the max for this model I believe) and install a 1TB HDD.

The RAM I was planning on purchasing is the 2gb and 1gb modules from Kingston http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=27697

I was torn between the 1tb caviar black/green from Western Digital.

Has anyone done a similar upgrade on this model?

Would anyone please care to share their insight on the hardware I have selected? Is there better RAM on the market? Any suggestions about different HDDs from other manufactures?

Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Andrew

You've probably already upgraded by now but I have the exacts same model and iv upgraded to 3GB RAM from crucial.com, I desperately need a new hard drive in mine, where's the best place to order from?
