I'm looking for a way to use my iMac as a monitor, preferably for a PS3 or an Xbox 360.

I know that this model doesn't have any native pass through capability so I was wondering if anyone could recommend any kind of USB video input card or a capture card which would allow DHCP HDMI in without too much lag.

I have really limited space and don't have room for my iMac and a TV. It's always seemed a bit of a waste really to have such a nice screen and not be able to do much with it externally.

I've tried a google and forum search but a lot of results talk about video capture etc which isn't really what I'm specifically looking for.

Thanks.

Any HDMI to USB will be laggy, too much for gaming.

I feared as much, I didn't think USB but would throttle HDMI quite so much, when people use Capture Cards, how do they get around such lag or does it not work in quite the same way? Or is it because most of the time they're doing it via a dedicated internal video card?

People use capture cards to capture video, lag isn't an issue. You want live video with no lag.

Solution: buy another monitor or TV.
Since space is a problem consider selling your iMac and buying a Mac Mini + monitor with at least two video inputs.

I see, oh well never mind. It's not a huge deal, I just thought it'd be nice if it could be done.
