I'm new to mac with my 2009 macbook but like it alot.

I have a mild gaming windows PC at home but not longer play games, kinda lost interest.

So cannot afford a new mac pc so looking at 2nd hand.

found a few a1224 for between £100-£150.
the a1224 can run el cap which is why I'm looking at this model or higher.

is it worth buying or shall I wait a year or two and buy a new/refurb imac?

I'm planning on selling the gamer to fund the purchase.

I was looking at mac mini as have a 19" monitor.
but what do you guys think?

I never been a fan of super small computers as tend to be hard or not able to upgrade.

Mac minis are far easier to upgrade than iMacs as are all small PCs compared to al in ones.

Mac mini seem to be same or more than an imac.

I have little funds but quite like mac alot and would like to change to mac.

I looked at tear downs for the imac and other than popping the glass out.
rest seems ok as im used to taking laptops/printers apart in my job.

OK so missed out on an imac on ebay.

so found another which is little more but has 1 year warranty as it's refurb unit.

decided to throw caution to wind and buy it...

Going to up the ram and in time swap out HDD but not yet.

Will install El Cap as a 1224 will run el cap and it is in my app store download so should be ok.

my 2.0GHz imac is due to arrive at home today before 1pm.

So my fiancee is waiting in to sign for it.

It's the 20" model.
2GB ram cannot remember the HDD off hand but going to upgrade to SSD anyway.

got my refurb apple keyboard waiting already at home and a stock usb mouse.
I tried and do not like the mighty mouse.
Im so used to a windows style mouse.

Try searching on Google if you can turn your system into a hackintosh. Search if your motherboard/processor/video card are compatible. If you're proficient at troubleshooting a Windows computer, and if the main hardware is compatible, then you could probably convert it over to OSX.

Why would I want a hackintosh?

It is a mac!

It will run el capitan but need to upgrade the ram as 2GB is not enough.

I upgraded to el capitan over weekend.

Quite happy now as some of the problems in 10.6.8 have gone.

Machine is bit faster but still needs ram.
In 10.6.8 it had script problems in safari and firefox which lead to lots of beachball moments.

Since the el cap upgrade all the script problems are gone.
before you all ask yes all browsers and plug in where up to date in 10.6.8 as was flash, etc.
I thought that was why it kept crashing.

But im happy now and it same as my macbook os now.
