iMac Advice

I've been using mac computers for 3 years now and always loved the design of the iMac.
Soon i will be going off to college for computer science/ software engineering.
currently i am using a 2011 mac mini and a 2010 MBP, and have just placed an order on a 2012 MBA 13"/8gb Ram/128ssd, for school.
but this was my plan. use the MBA for class and going to the library and have an iMac as a power house in my dorm.
currently i use my MBP to go between houses and i leave the mac mini on24/7 and use it for streaming videos, music.
do you think it is a good plan?

Use MBA for classes
Use iMac for heavy projects

I'll be leaving the mini at home and selling the MBP. We use the Mac mini at my house to store tons of movies

I ordered a 27" 2.7GHz quad core iMac, 256gb ssd+ 1TB option
also orded 24gbs of ram Via OWC ( Macsales.com) total came to around $2,500USD
