Hi fellows, I need your advice.
See, something about 2 years ago I've get a brand new iMac Core 2 Duo 2.0Ghz, 250MB HDD, 128MB ATI Card, 20" and stuff. It is a great machine, silent, fast for my necessities, and reliable, it never failed.
But I want some new stuff, and since in my country (Mexico), second hand Macs have a great value, I was thinking of buying with the money gotten by the sale, the new base model Mac Mini + a HD Monitor, kind of 23".
The main differences that I care are:
-Actual iMac has a faster hard disk drive, but less capacity, dedicated graphics memory, 1MB more of Cache Memory.
-New Mac Mini has a 0.4 faster processor and the benevolence of a brand new machine.
To consider:
I don't want always the fastest and newest, but yes I like to change my setup every 1-2 years to stay not too old. And so, the actual screen of the iMac is getting marks of wearing.
I'm not intended to play games, for that purpose I've got another gadgets.
The most resource intensive apps that I ran with actual iMac were Handbrake and Mac The Ripper, but with VLC for iPad I don't use that apps anymore.
Now, the heavy stuff that I run are Photoshop CS3, Aperture 2 and GIMP.
My great concerns are if I'm going to notice a less sweet experience than my actual desktop setup (because of the integrated graphics and the laptop HDD) and if the Mac Mini base model will not be able to run Lion smoothly or worst of all, that can't handle it.
So, would you keep an iMac of 2 years ago or buy a new entry model Mac Mini?
Thanks in advance.
