I have a 2006 imac running 10.6.8 and bought a Seagate backup plus drive (STBW1000900) and it won't work with this machine even though box says it will work with 10.6.8. It works on laptop running 10.8. Anyone know why or how to fix? It keeps saying error while creating backup folder etc.

Use disk utility to format it to a Mac OS Extended Journaled drive.

It's likely just some ******** custom Seagate software they've installed which nobody ever uses. If it's a standard hard drive underneath it should work just fine (which I'm 99% sure it will).
