Also iFixit is pretty good source for how to instructions, I'd visit their web site and see if they have instructions for this.
Finally, if after looking at these instructions and you don't feel comfortable doing the surgery yourself (it's not for the faint of heart) then take the machien to a AASP and have them do it. The charge should be nominal if you supply the SSD. As to which SSD is "best" that's up to you to do your own due dilligence.
I updated my 2010 iMac to an Crucial M550 1TB SSD and followed the instruction in this video on youtube. Also buy the OWC kit that contains the suction cups, screwdrivers, cleaning clothes etc.
Don't know how big the differences are between the 2009 and 2010 models though
Biggest pain was inserting the SATA cable behind the motherboard that took me about 30 minutes to get in place.
To do the work takes confidence and knowledge of computers, don't attempt if you can't handle. I've built computers for the last 14 + years but this was difficult.
